Dieudonné

So, continuing to inspire you guys with people that inspire me. And today the star of the show is no other than Dieudonné himself. Have you ever heard of this French comedian? If not, I guess it’s high time you guys really get into his work, character and affirmative action. Indeed, Dieudonné is probably what I might call a George Carlin reincarnated (this might be a bit far-fetched, though, considering the fact that both comedians co-existed on this planet of ours). That been said Dieudonné is still the only comedian out there who takes the limits of humour a step further and really breaks all boundaries of human conception of humour. As you may all know there aren’t that many comedians out there other than the earlier mentioned Mr. Carlin that went a step further in their act and addressed social issues in a funny enough manner that made people actually care. Just like Bill Hicks and his gig on JFK or George Carlin on the stupidity and absurd of the US govt. Dieudonné takes a bunch of taboos and quirks and puts it in the face of his audience with no mercy.

Before getting into what a superb radical this gentleman is, I guess you guys have some catching up to do. I mean you guys better get an idea of who we are talking about here. After all it’s a French comedian, not your blockbuster, hollywood mega stars. So, first things first, I would advise you guys not to go straight to his official wikipedia page. Indeed, the first couple of sentences about this visionary might gee you guys the wrong impression and make you think that he is some sort of anti-Semitic radical. Well, guys like George Carlin have always been considered as enemies of the state, so if this kind of thing doesn’t put you off just bear with me and get the true story. If I were you guys, I would rather start by looking at Élie et Dieudonné’s humble beginnings when he was in a comedian duo named “Élie et Dieudonné”. Would like to add that if you guys are into french humour, these guys right here are probably as good as french humour gets, highly recommended!!!

But Dieudonné’s career was just at its beginning. In fact he in the year 2000 or so his solo career started to boom and he became a star in his own right. I guess, it all began with his show entitled “Pardon Judas” which is probably the best example of what a stand up show should be like. Very professionally made , with a mastery of characters and mimicry. Here, take a look for yourself. All that is or was excellent because after this period of fame and unconditional love of the public, Dieudonné made a “mistake” (at least that’s what the majority of people say). He made an appearance on a TV talk show with a show where he portrayed Jews and Israel as equivalents of the apartheid and nazi regime. This lead to him being persecuted and attacked on the media front and many major public figures in France denounced his behaviour by calling him anti-Semitic and a racist. I guess this is where things become interesting. Indeed, though this is probably the reason why Dieudonné fell out with the biggest portion of his fans, it was also the thing that triggered a major interest to his personality. I for one think that these are all flawed accusations. Why? Well, for starters the one thing that Dieudonné is really involved in is in a battle against zionists and the Israeli regime. As you may all these kind of anti-zionist are common place and there is no reason why Dieudonné should be the one persecuted for this kind of behaviour. I mean, even I am the kind of person that is not in favour of what the Israeli regime is doing there in Palestine. Think it’s clear that this regime is basically decimating all the Palestinian population out there. So, why the hell do people want to shutdown everyone who is whistle-blowing about these issues. Moreover, why should we censor a comedian for this kind of anti-zionist behaviour in his shows and performances? Is it that there is a limit to what comedians can make fun of? I guess, not. It’s true that, “you can laugh about everything, but not with everyone”, but nevertheless the fact that a liberal country such as France which is always at the forefront of fighting for human rights and defence of minorities, is into such massive censorship of an artist which is still adored by the public.
I’m sure that most of you guys reading this, think that I’m defending an anti-Semitic public figure or even worse think that I’m an anti-semitic myself. Trust me that’s not the case at all. It’s true that I hate Israel for what they are doing to Palestinians. And is equally true that I despise what has been done to their nation during WWII. Nevertheless, I really don’t see why humanity on the whole should be int compensating the suffering of one race over the other. Haven’t Blacks, for instance, suffered during slavery and colonisation? Haven’t there been other cases of genocide and mass murder? So, why the hell should we be constantly reminded of just one type of human suffering? It’s really everywhere, in the news, movies, blogs and so on. Why don’t we have such an omnipresence about issues regarding blacks, their discrimination, inability to be part of society and so on? All these are issues that Dieudonné rises in his shows and public appearances, but doesn’t there. the most appealing aspect of his work is, as i said before, is the level at which he is a professional. Have never seen that level of mastery and perfection. So, praise be to Dieudonné, his work and his talent. Peace, Love & Unity…
